Pulpotomy
Pulpotomy
A pulpotomy is a procedure primarily performed on children’s primary teeth, although it can sometimes be used on adult teeth as well. It involves the removal of the diseased pulp tissue within the crown portion of the tooth while preserving the healthy pulp in the roots.
This treatment is often necessary when decay has reached the pulp but has not yet affected the roots.
The goal of a pulpotomy is to maintain the vitality of the remaining pulp, allowing the tooth to continue its normal function until it naturally falls out or, in the case of adult teeth, is further treated. This procedure is usually followed by the placement of a protective crown to ensure the tooth remains strong and functional.
